What is a Steering Angle Sensor?
Steering Angle Sensor (SAS) is an integral part of the vehicle's stability control system.
It provides precise measurements of the position of the tires and their rotational speed.
It also works with the accelerometer, wheel speed and yaw sensors to measure variables such as what the vehicle will do, what the driver will do to the vehicle, and what adjustments must be made to the ABS control unit to control the vehicle.
The steering wheel angle sensor is divided into analog and digital.
The steering angle sensor in most new model vehicles is digital. Analog sensors work with 5 volt chassis ground and signal output.
When the tire is turned full revolution, the sensor generates a kind of signal between 0 and 5 volts.
The voltage difference formed here is used to determine the angle and rotation speed.
Digital sensors, on the other hand, use LED light to measure data such as wheel angle, rotation direction, rotation speed.
In both types of sensors, the steering angle sensor will activate the stability control system to help the driver control the vehicle if it detects a problem with the steering position and the direction the vehicle is moving.
How to Reset Steering Angle Sensor?
SAS reset process differs between manufacturers and models. However, there are several methods of calibrating the sensors that make up the SAS system.

- Some newly produced vehicles can perform automatic calibration by moving the steering wheel from the lock position to the middle position and turning the key.

In some vehicles, resetting the diraction angle sensor is done only with fault detection devices.

What are the actions to be taken to reset the steering angle sensor?
We connect our Launch device to the vehicle we will reset. We define our vehicle automatically in the "Intelligent Diagnosis" section.
If you want, you can do the vehicle diagnosis manually. After finding the brand and model of your vehicle, we enter the "System Selection" menu.
This system, which varies according to the vehicle brand, model or the fault detection device used, is calibrated in the Abs module in some vehicle brands, and in some vehicle brands it is directly listed as SAS or Steering Assistance.
We continue by clicking the Steering Assistant menu. On the screen that appears, we touch the "Steering Wheel Angle Sensor Calibration" option.
The Launch fault detection device, which is used to reset the steering angle sensor, guides step by step for the necessary actions.
We see a warning on the screen that we need to turn the ignition on, and after turning on the ignition, we tap the Continue button. "Do you want to continue the calibration?" A warning comes in the form of. We tap on the Yes option.
Then there is a warning that the malfunctions related to the angle sensor will be checked. We touch the Continue button and a warning is displayed on the screen that the fault codes have been checked.
We click on the Continue button. And a warning appears on the screen about the actions to be taken. At this stage, after reading the warnings carefully, it is necessary to touch the Yes button. Otherwise, the transaction will fail.
After meeting all the conditions, we click on the Yes button and the process begins. Then we get a warning that the process is completed and we tap the Continue button.
We get a warning on the screen that the engine starts. After running the engine, we click on the Continue button.
Then we get warnings on the screen stating that we need to test drive a short distance to check.
After the test process is completed, we complete the Steering Angle Sensor reset process by deleting the fault codes.
