Why is the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) Clogged?

The particle filter was first used in some versions of Euro 4 vehicles. In the following process, in order to reduce environmental pollution caused by exhaust smoke, it has become mandatory to use the DPF system in all Euro 4 Euro 5 and Euro 6 vehicles.

The Particle Filter looks like a honeycomb.

Since the combustion process of the fuel in the engine is not fully realized, it must be exhausted as smoke.

While the unburned gases are thrown out, they get caught in the particle filter. Burning gases pass through the smallest pores of the filter and are thrown out.

Gases that cannot be expelled cause problems after a while. In other words, it causes the particle filter to be clogged.

The gases that cannot be expelled will damage the engine of the vehicle and cause it to fall off the traction.

In order to prevent this problem, pressure sensors in vehicles are used.

The only task of these sensors is to measure the level of residues formed in the particle filter.

If the level is too high and the clogging has begun, the regeneration process is started.

If the soot level is excessively high, the regeneration process will not start and in this case a blockage will occur, which will cause the engine fault lamp to light.

In fact, there are some simple issues that we need to pay attention to in order to prevent clogging of the particle filters.

When we pay attention to these, we do not encounter any clogging or falling from the traction over time in our vehicle.

Conditions to be considered;

Fuel quality is one of the most important points to be considered.

The use of poor quality fuel causes clogging in the filter over time.

While moving with the idea of saving fuel, it may cause the vehicle to encounter more serious problems.

If it is not compatible with the quality of the engine oil used and the particulate filter, it may cause the filter to clog over time.

Continuous stop and go situation encountered in dense side causes rapid clogging of the filter.

Running the vehicle at idle for a long time is also one of the factors that accelerate the clogging of the particle filter

 How Can We Clean The Clogged Particulate Filter?

The clogged particle filter can be used in 2 different ways. These methods;

It is to clean the soot formed in the diesel particle filter with a special device and liquid or to change the filter.

However, the cleaning process is more advantageous as the part replacement process causes very serious costs for the users.

There are 2 options for the cleaning method;

Cleaning on a service basis; With this method, your vehicle is connected to the clip device and reaches the highest temperature with a command.

Thanks to the high temperature, the soot in the particle is burned and the particle filter is opened.

Cleaning at high speed; In fact, this method will be useful in our practice from time to time.

Because it is the cleanest and inexpensive method we can use to clean existing institutions.

Let us use the vehicle for 15 minutes at the 3rd gear over 3000 rpm on your long journeys, and the soot formed due to the high speed will burn and eliminate the malfunction thanks to the high temperature.
