Land vehicles that have been in our lives for more than centuries; Although the first years of its invention were used for carrying loads, it has become an indispensable part of our lives over time and especially in recent years.

However, the malfunctions of the vehicles have also increased, and many products have been produced to solve and eliminate the malfunctions.

One of these malfunctions is; While it is the most important part of the vehicle, the most complex to repair is the engine control unit (Auto ecu ) (ECU) malfunction.

Functions of ECUs

Although the Engine Control Unit, which has been used in automobiles for about 20 years, initially controls only the injectors used in the fuel system, today the Engine Control Units (Auto ecu ) (ECU) can control from the digital clock on the front console to the lighting in the rear trunk.

However, the fault detection of the Engine Control Units (Auto ecu ) (ECU) has become difficult, diversified and difficult to repair. At this point, we can talk about Ecu Fault Detection, repair, and methods to be used when troubleshooting.

ECU (Engine Control Unit) Repair Methods

The first action to be taken when it is determined that the cause of the malfunction of the defective car is electronic rather than mechanical, the sensors and cables controlled by the Engine Control Unit are checked.

The first thing that comes to mind here is why the Ecu, namely Auto ecu , is not controlled first?

However, if the Auto ecu control is done for the first time, it will be much easier and will take a shorter time.

The answer to this question is obvious; Our workshop masters do not have a product that can simulate or test the Ecu, ie the engine ecu , before the installation, cable and sensor tests.

If it is decided that the fault is caused by Ecu (Engine ecu ) after the installation, sensor, cable tests and controls, two ways are followed for repair.

One of them is software and the other is hardware repair.

Software Repair

ECU (Engine ecu ) repair is possible with software changes in conditions such as hardware changes of existing cars (resolved dpf installation, change of speed limit, deletion of software with voltage difference, request to be adapted from a different car as a result of the complete destruction of the ECU (Engine ecu )).

For example; An ECU is required to be mounted on a vehicle with flood damage and its ECU completely unusable.

The steps we need to follow for this are;

Finding the same brand and numbered ecu .

Writing the immobilizer and software information of the relevant vehicle to the ECU to be mounted.

(For this, we must use the Flex product of the Magicmotorsport brand.)

The last step is to provide the adaptation and calibration processes of the existing parts with an Autel or Launch brand fault detection device while the new and software has been installed on the vehicle.

Hardware Repair

In Otobils, it is possible to repair the existing ECU without changing it as a result of physical damages such as voltage differences, short circuit and some flood.

As I mentioned at the beginning of my article, the process order tradition was first of installation, cable, tests and controls and then ECU repair. ECU repair, on the other hand, was limited to experience and unknown ECU damages could not be fixed, which caused both time, labor and more repair costs.

However, in such a problem, if we have a product ECUTEST KF-1500 that can test the ECU (Engine ecu ), the process steps are as follows;

Engine ecu (ECU) is disconnected from the vehicle, connected to ECUTEST and simulated.

ECUTEST identifies where the problem is by simulating the ECU and informs us in detail.

FOR EXAMPLE: Let our fault be Mosfet controlling injector number 4 in the ECU.

ECUTEST will show the injector number 4 not working and the location of this Mosfet with its values.

In the last step, we have repaired our ECU by replacing this Mosfet with an equivalent Mosfet.

The mosfet we mentioned here is also called transistor, mosfet driver or just driver or driver by some of our masters.
