Cummins ISM11 Engine ECU Repair
We took the CM876 engine ECU of the Cummins ISM11 engine to the bench for repair.
First, we establish a connection between the CM876 ECU and the Ecutest ECU Simulation and Test Device.
We made the connection to the CM876 ECU with the Universal Socket supplied with the Ecutest ECU Simulation and Test Device, which allows you to easily connect to all heavy-duty and passenger vehicle engine ECUs.
Upon our customers' request, we can also do this with the original socket for each engine ECU, so you simply plug the socket directly into the ECU and your connection is made.
After making our connection, we open the simulation of the Ecutest ECU Simulation and Test Device on the computer.
After selecting the vehicle make and model, we confirm the ECU as Cummins ISM11-CM876 and enter our simulation screen.
When we run our simulation screen, we first check the 'Sensor Powers' — the sensor supply voltages — and see that they are fine.
We can see that the injectors are working, both on the simulation screen and on the Ecutest ECU Simulation and Test Device.
When we hover over the fault location indicated by the red light under the injectors, we see that it is the 'Fuel ShutOff Actuator'.
Thus we have found the fault in the CM876 ECU. Then, by clicking the 'Component Description' button on our simulation screen, we view the internal diagram of the CM876 ECU.
Here, the function and brand of the circuit components are listed.
From here, we find the circuit component that controls the Fuel ShutOff Actuator. Then, by clicking on 'Electric Diagram', we see the pin terminals to which the Fuel ShutOff Actuator is connected and the signal types.
Thus, thanks to the Ecutest ECU Simulation and Test Device, we learn both the circuit component and the pin terminals.
First, we check the circuit path from the ECU pin to the circuit component to which the fuel shutoff actuator is connected using a multimeter, and we see that it is fine.
After seeing that the circuit path is fine, we check the circuit component it is connected to and observe that it has failed and that the IC pins are short-circuited to ground.
Using a soldering iron, we remove the faulty IC without damaging the ECU and install a working IC in its place.
After completing our work, we connect the CM876 ECU to the Ecutest ECU Simulation and Test Device again.
When we open our simulation screen, we see that there is no problem with the ECU and that it runs flawlessly, and we complete our test.
Thus, thanks to the Ecutest ECU Simulation and Test Device, we resolve the CM876 ECU's problem in the fastest, easiest and most cost-effective way. We deliver the CM876 ECU to our customer.
