Komatsu builds excavators, loaders, dozers, graders and haul trucks for construction, mining and industrial work. These machines are designed for punishing conditions, but their electronic control systems will eventually report a problem. When they do, they produce a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) to point the operator or technician in the right direction.
Reading those codes correctly is what separates a one-hour repair from a three-day one. A misread code costs downtime and, worse, parts that did not need replacing.
How Komatsu Fault Codes Are Structured
Komatsu uses different code families depending on which system reported the fault:

Engine Fault Codes (CA Series)
The most common group. Engine codes usually fall into three areas — lubrication, cooling and fuel.

A note on injector codes: a CA322-CA325 code does not automatically mean the injector is dead. Confirm with a resistance measurement and a return-flow test before ordering parts.
Emissions System Codes (DPF, SCR, AdBlue)
Machines built to Tier 4 / Stage IV standards add a whole layer of aftertreatment faults: diesel particulate filter (DPF) blockage, AdBlue system problems (pump, injector, level and quality sensors) and Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) faults. These codes often trigger a power derate, so the machine keeps running but loses performance until the fault is cleared.
Hydraulic System Fault Codes (DX / DW Series)

Hydraulic faults are the ones most often misdiagnosed as pump failure. Confirm actual pressure with a gauge at the test port before condemning an expensive component.
Transmission and Drivetrain Codes
On loaders, dozers and haul trucks, transmission-related codes typically show up as harsh or missed shifts, or the machine locking into a single gear. Check transmission oil level and temperature, shift solenoid resistance and speed sensor signals before opening anything.
Electrical and Controller Codes
- CAN bus communication errors: the electronic control units on the machine have lost contact with each other. Suspect wiring, connectors and terminating resistors before the controllers themselves.
- Sensor supply voltage faults: a single shorted sensor can pull down the shared supply rail and set codes across several unrelated systems at once.
- Monitor panel faults: a problem with the display the operator reads, or with the sensors feeding it.
What To Do When a Fault Code Appears
- Make the machine safe. Move it to a safe area and shut the engine down if the code calls for an immediate stop.
- Write the code down before clearing it. Record every code on the monitor panel along with hour meter reading and operating conditions. Clearing a code destroys the evidence.
- Ask the operator. When did it appear? Cold start, under load, on a slope, after refuelling? This narrows the search more than any code list.
- Check the basics. Fluid levels, battery voltage, connectors and grounds. A large share of electronic faults are loose or corroded connections.
- Connect a diagnostic tool. Read the full fault memory across all controllers, not just the engine, and review live data. The code tells you which circuit; live data tells you why.
- Repair, clear, then verify. After the repair, clear the code and run the machine under the conditions that produced the fault to confirm it does not return.
