Komatsu Fault Codes and Their Meanings

Komatsu construction machines store a fault code whenever a controller detects a signal outside its expected range. The code identifies which circuit or component reported the problem, which is where any diagnosis has to start.

How Komatsu Code Groups Are Structured

Komatsu codes are not random. The prefix tells you which part of the machine reported the fault:

E0xxMain system and operating mode faults (HYPER, PC-EPC, swing parking brake, control lever)
E1xxRecorder, monitor panel and auxiliary equipment (air filter, coolant temperature, wiper)
E2xxSolenoid valve circuits — short circuit and open circuit
E3xxSensor and communication faults
DWxxxxHydraulic system — relief and pressure valves
DXxxxxPump control — PC-EPC, LS-EPC, merge/divide valves
DYxxxxCab equipment — wiper and washer motor
CAxxxxEngine controller, including EFI engines (PC200-8 and later)

On PC200-8 and later machines the user code set differs considerably from PC200-6 and PC200-7. The same code number can mean different things across machine generations, so a code read without the model context is misleading.

Open Circuit or Short Circuit?

In the solenoid valve groups, the suffix is the decisive part. A short circuit usually points to a chafed or crushed harness; an open circuit points to a disconnected connection or a failed coil. Both sit in the same code family, but they send you to different places on the machine.

Why Reading These Codes Needs Specific Equipment

Most of these codes sit in machine and engine controllers. Construction equipment uses different protocols and connectors from the automotive world, so a tool built for cars cannot reach these units and the fault often appears as "no code found". That does not mean there is no code — it means the tool cannot see it.

A code also does not clear itself after a repair. Once the fault is corrected the stored code has to be cleared with a tool that has Komatsu coverage, otherwise the monitor panel keeps reporting it.
