How Is the Autel Maxisys Ultra Oscilloscope Used?
Autel Maxisys Ultra, the latest product Autel has released, is built with the latest software and hardware technology.
It has many features that let workshops and service centres handle a large share of their work.
Ultra is the latest device in the series and includes advanced functions such as oscilloscope, multimeter, CAN bus check and waveform generator.
With the built-in oscilloscope you can also perform electronic measurements easily.
In this article we look at oscilloscope and signal generator use. First select oscilloscope from the measurements section. Click the vehicle section for MAF sensor measurement.
The screen shows options such as actuators, ignition systems, battery charge, combination test, engine start and sensors — select sensors. In the sensors section choose mass air flow (MAF) sensor.
The MAF sensor appears in two types (analog and frequency-based). Choose according to which type your vehicle uses and continue.
After selection, general instructions appear; translate them from the translator section. This explains what to do and which materials are needed.
Open the MAF sensor connection diagram with the oscilloscope. It shows how to connect and which cable goes to which terminal. A live view is also shared; make the connection accordingly.
The voltage values of the signal you need to see are shown in the example section. Fault codes related to the MAF are listed.
At the MAF sensor location on the vehicle there are four wires: positive voltage, negative voltage, incoming air measurement and air temperature measurement.
The operator presses the start button on screen and the vehicle is started.
The probe tip is touched to one of the wires. The example signal on screen is compared with the signal after connection to check they match.
From the open screen you can customize the measurement (time base, maximum, frequency, true RMS, etc.). Selected options open on the side. You can see whether the MAF signal narrows or widens, increases or decreases according to throttle response.
Second, the probe tip is touched to the second wire. You can see the sensor supply voltage.
In the next sub-option, check whether the value changes again.
On the other lower connection you reduce the voltage value and set the maximum range. You then see the air temperature measurement.
Another job you can do with the oscilloscope is throttle measurement. Again, from sensors on the first screen select throttle.
This also appears in two types (electronic throttle control, throttle position sensor). Select throttle position sensor and the connection diagram appears.
Again, the expected signal and required steps are explained and related fault codes are shown.
For measurement, start the vehicle and touch the probe to the throttle. Check whether the measurement matches the example signal.
Besides oscilloscope measurements, measured signal values can also be checked from the signal generator section. For the signal generator, connect positive and negative to the vehicle.
Connect the positive lead to temperature and check whether the ECU's response to the temperature sensor is normal; this shows whether the fault is in the sensor or in the line to the ECU.
