Mercedes EZS / EIS Fault
Ignition and key electronics diagnostics
What Is an EZS/EIS Fault?
EZS / EIS is the control unit associated with ignition and key electronics on many Mercedes vehicles. The naming and generation vary by body and model year.
Symptoms: no-start, key not recognized, intermittent starting, or EZS communication faults. The cause could be the key, the antenna/slot, power supply, the ESL chain, or EZS hardware.
mercedes-key-programming is a separate procedure. It is evaluated together with mercedes-esl-elv-fault; lock bypass instructions are not included in this guide.
Security data is sensitive; we do not recommend undocumented shortcuts.
Checklist (General)
Menus vary by version
Key
Check the spare key and its battery/damage.
Power Supply
EZS power/ground and slot signal.
ESL Relation
Steering lock chain — no bypass; see mercedes-esl-elv-fault.
Diagnostics
Proceed with mercedes-xentry using DTCs and the wiring diagram.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are EZS and EIS the same?
They are often names used for the same family/role; check the generation and documentation.
Should the EZS be replaced right away?
No. First rule out the key, power supply, and the related chain.
What about Nitro Bilişim?
We provide support for diagnostic tools. Plan the repair with a competent workflow.
EZS/EIS — Workshop Notes
For intermittent start complaints, measuring the slot/antenna and power supply comes before rushing to replace the EZS.
A key programming need and an EZS hardware fault are different diagnostic paths (mercedes-key-programming).
No bypass description is provided for the ESL relation; see the mercedes-esl-elv-fault security framework.
Mercedes-Benz Solutions with Nitro Bilişim
Diagnose the immobilizer chain correctly on EZS/EIS faults. See the mercedes-key-programming and mercedes-xentry pages. Nitro Bilişim can help.
