CAN FD is an evolution of CAN offering higher bandwidth; DoIP refers to running the diagnostic session over Ethernet. Which one is active on which model depends on the platform and the software version — there is no claim here that "all 202X models are DoIP".
OEM software: Renault CLIP for Diagnostics and Programming. Interface: the Renault CAN Clip Interface with a compatible version and firmware, or a suitable DoIP-capable solution. Access: the Renault Security Gateway (SGW).
Impact on the workshop
| Topic | Impact | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Cable / interface | DoIP support may be required | Clone risk |
| PC / network | Ethernet configuration | Depends on the software |
| SGW | Write authorisation | the Renault Security Gateway (SGW) |
| Comparison | CAN Clip versus Renolink | Renault CAN Clip or Renolink |
Frequently Asked Questions
Will an older CAN Clip work on a newer vehicle?
Partly, or not at all, depending on the model. Firmware and DoIP support are decisive.
Does DoIP remove SGW?
No. DoIP is a connection method; SGW is a separate security layer.
Workshop notes
Verify the protocol difference by VIN on the newer Clio generation and the newer Duster.
Establish the connection type before starting a flash (Renault ECU Programming (Flash)).
Diagnostics on newer generations needs the right protocol, the right interface and an authorisation plan.
