Should AdBlue Be Used?
Nitrogen oxide (NOx) is a toxic gas that harms the environment, pollutes the air and directly affects human health.
It is emitted from motor vehicle exhaust, especially in heavy traffic. AdBlue is a fluid that helps minimise this harmful output.
It is a non-toxic, non-flammable 32.5% aqueous urea solution, also known as AUS 32.
AdBlue dosage is applied automatically by the control unit — about 3–4% of fuel consumption for Euro 4 and 5–7% emissions reduction for Euro 5.
In SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction), AdBlue is injected onto the catalyst; NOx converts to harmless nitrogen and water vapour.
AdBlue emulators disable the system electronically where legal. However, disabling SCR can cause severe soot buildup in the catalyst, clogging and costly damage. Resolved SCR systems that clog can also damage the engine through high back-pressure.
AdBlue should be stored between -11 °C and 30 °C. Frozen AdBlue causes no harm when thawed. When empty, a warning lamp appears.
Choosing carefully: wider AdBlue use protects health and the environment despite perceived costs and maintenance.
