After the industrial revolution, humanity moved rapidly toward becoming a consumption society as a result of increasing mass production.
As a result of becoming a consumption society, demand for products increased considerably. For this reason, manufacturing companies used various technologies to meet rising demand quickly.
Many of these technologies are harmful to the environment and cause significant damage to nature. In fact, after the industrial revolution, the world's temperature has increased by 1 degree by today due to harmful gases released.
This is a very negative situation for our world because research shows us that a 1.5 degree increase in global temperature has irreversible consequences.
To avoid all these negative outcomes, we need to neutralize the harm of these harmful technologies. At this point, the concept of Green Technology emerges.
What is the Green Technology concept and what is its purpose?
Green Technology is a structure that fundamentally aims to use environmentally friendly technologies. It considers the long- and short-term effects of a technology on the environment.
In this direction, it aims to use technologies that serve this purpose. In other words, it addresses sustainable and environmentally friendly technologies to reduce harm to the environment.
As a general concept, it also addresses efficiency, sustainability, recycling, health, renewability, and similar concepts.
Features of technologies produced in line with Green Technology are as follows;
- The environmentally friendly feature in products produced in this direction appears even in the production stage of the product. Because the materials used in production are recyclable, continuous collection of materials used in production is prevented, and because the materials used do not contain carcinogens, it is also very important for health.
- Because they are recyclable, they are not discarded after use but given to recycling centers.
- Products produced in this direction also reduce carbon emissions.
- Products produced in this direction also provide significant economic advantages to both consumers and manufacturers.
Use of Green Technology in the Automotive Industry
As we all know, one of the biggest harms in automobiles is the toxic gases they release. These gases are also very dangerous for the atmosphere.
As we stated in the first part of our article, these gases are among the factors that significantly affect the rise in global temperature. For this reason, the green technology movement has also been used in the automotive sector.
They aimed to do this by electrifying automobiles. Undoubtedly, the biggest example of this is electric vehicles.
In fact, before fully electric vehicles, hybrid vehicles were produced that run using both electrical energy and fuel energy.
Along with this, the amount of gas released into nature was intended to be reduced and increasing fuel consumption was intended to be stopped.
Hybrid vehicles have been quite successful in this regard and are still very successful today because they are still in use. However, the goal of green technology is to completely eliminate these harmful gases, and because of energy sustainability, production of fully electric vehicles has been targeted.
The logic in fully electric vehicles is exactly as the name suggests: fully electric. From the motor inside to all components, operation with electric current is ensured.
Parts such as exhaust and fuel tank that we see in internal combustion engine vehicles are not found in these vehicles. In line with the purpose of the green technology movement, all parts in these vehicles use electric current.
Benefits of electric vehicles produced for the purpose of green technology;
As the number of these vehicles increases, the use of internal combustion engine cars will gradually decrease and end. For this reason, fuels such as petrol and diesel will not be used and emission values will decrease considerably.
This will offer us a much cleaner environment for our future. At the same time, because electricity is a cheaper energy, people will spend less on fuel.
Thus, they will also save money every year. These are only a few of the benefits. I am sure we will see many more benefits as electric vehicle use increases.
To briefly summarize what I have written; green technology is a movement that emerged due to increasing global warming and climatic negatives.
This movement tells us to increase products produced in line with the green technology concept so that no more negatives occur in nature. This green technology movement has also found a response in the automotive sector.
These are electric vehicles. With electric vehicles, it has been targeted to reduce harmful gases released. With decreasing emission values, it has been stated that our world will become healthier.
