What Is a DPF Machine? What Does a DPF Machine Do?

What Is a DPF Machine? What Does a DPF Machine Do?

To understand exactly what a DPF machine — in other words a diesel particulate filter cleaning machine — is, we first need to understand what a Particulate Filter is.

DPF is the abbreviation of Diesel Particulate Filter and is the name given to the filter located before the exhaust on the vehicle.

What is DPF?

Diesel engine fuel system consists of diesel particulate filter, diesel injector, combustion chamber, common rail, injection pump, fuel filter, supply pump and fuel tank. DPF is part of the diesel fuel system and is a filter added to the exhaust to reduce Particulate Matter (PM) (soot) produced after combustion in diesel engines.

Soot particles can be as small as 0.1 µm and are among the most dangerous components causing air pollution. Entering the body through the respiratory tract, they can reach vital organs such as lungs, heart and brain and cause serious disease and premature death.

This explains what a DPF machine is for: cleaning soot on the DPF and restoring the particulate filter as cleanly as possible.

What exhaust emission soot level is allowed on vehicles?

Strict limits on particulate values in exhaust emission controls required by the EU made DPF mandatory. Allowed PM level is 0.025 g/km on Euro 4 and 0.005 g/km on Euro 5.

How does DPF work?

DPF traps PM in exhaust gas and limits particulate emissions. Over time PM builds up inside the DPF, increases back pressure, affects fuel consumption and engine performance. Clog level is monitored continuously via inlet/outlet pressure difference and temperature sensors; the driver is warned on the instrument cluster when clogging occurs.

How is DPF cleaned?

DPF cleaning removes accumulated soot to reduce back pressure. The most common methods are DPF regeneration and cleaning with a Diesel Particulate Cleaning Machine. Below we compare advantages and disadvantages.

What is DPF regeneration? What are the drawbacks?

When the engine control unit detects a set clog level via sensors, it increases exhaust temperature with extra fuel injections and burns soot out of the filter — this is DPF regeneration. On some vehicles it starts automatically after a minimum distance; workshops can also trigger it with a diagnostic tool while the vehicle is stationary.

Drawbacks: it is not a permanent fix and the DPF will likely clog again soon. High temperature can damage the filter. Regeneration can be performed at most about three times; after that the filter becomes unusable. DPF machine cleaning can be repeated many times and is a long-term solution.

What is a DPF machine? What does a DPF cleaning machine do? What are the benefits?

What is a DPF machine? Before explaining what it does, consider why the need arose: regeneration eventually makes filters unusable, replacement is costly, and DPF delete is now prohibited by law — so DPF cleaning machines have become essential workshop equipment.

A DPF machine washes clogged DPF units with dedicated detergent and pressurized water until particulates are fully removed. The process can be repeated many times on the same filter.

Particulate cleaning machines also clean clogged particulate filters, FAP, catalytic converters and SCR filters and return them to service.

Benefits of the DPF machine: vehicle originality is preserved, the washed DPF returns to like-new condition and stays clear longer, the engine works without strain and fuel savings are achieved.

With a DPF cleaning machine you can clean car, light commercial, truck, bus, train, ship and even factory filters.

Do not regenerate — have your DPF washed!

Technology evolves and air pollution is a growing concern. DPF is designed to trap harmful exhaust emissions and represents a significant part of vehicle cost. When clogged, washing with a DPF cleaning machine is better for your budget and the environment than deleting the filter.

A DPF machine protects your budget, your vehicle and the environment.

What is the best DPF cleaning machine?

When comparing DPF cleaning machines, evaluate how efficiently they perform the same job:

  • Unit washing cost
  • Energy consumption
  • Ease of use
  • Cleaning rate
  • Specifications

On all these criteria, our DPF cleaning device stands out with low wash cost, low energy use, high efficiency, voice guidance, ease of use, high cleaning rate and CE certification.
