Today, many people are car enthusiasts. They customize their vehicles in various ways to make them very different from their ordinary state.
One of these customizations is changes made to alter the exhaust sound of the vehicle.
A very loud exhaust sound comes from high-speed cars or vehicles in events such as rally racing. The reason for this loud sound is the Anti-lag System that works together with the turbocharging system on vehicles.
The anti-lag system is a system that eliminates turbo lag. In today's article, we will talk about the anti-lag system. To do this, we first need to understand the turbocharging system.
What is the turbocharging system and what does it do?
The turbocharging system is an engine intake system found in internal combustion engines. With this system, vehicle performance is intended to increase and fuel consumption to decrease.
Increasing the fuel and air mixture going to the combustion chamber is done to increase engine performance. That is exactly the purpose of turbocharging: to make the engine burn more fuel and air mixture.
With the turbo, the engine draws in more air, the drawn air is sent to high-pressure cylinders, and the vehicle contacts more air and the engine runs more powerfully. However, there is a small problem in this system called turbo lag.
What does turbo lag mean?
Turbo lag is the time it takes for the cylinder that provides turbocharging to reach the required rotational speed.
In today's turbo vehicles, this delay is felt less. However, there is still a time difference between the moment you press the accelerator and the turbo reaching the required speed.
What is the anti-lag system and what does it do?
The anti-lag system means anti-delay. With this system, turbo lag is intended to be eliminated.
Battery-powered rotors are used in daily passenger cars to reduce delay. However, in areas with competition such as rally and F1, this system is not sufficient and anti-lag systems are applied to vehicles.
Thanks to the anti-lag system, combustion continues continuously inside the exhaust, and energy is constantly transferred to the turbo.
With this system, the turbo lag problem disappears and the turbo can continuously reach the desired speed.
Does the anti-lag system damage vehicles?
The biggest damage seen from this system is that it keeps the engine continuously hot. For this reason, parts in the vehicle wear out faster. Regular checks should therefore be performed; otherwise the vehicle may become unusable in a short time.
Can the anti-lag system be added to every vehicle?
An anti-lag system can be added to every vehicle that has a turbocharging system. However, with this system, components in the vehicle can wear out quickly and this system can cause legal problems.
If you will not use your vehicle in areas such as rally tracks and you do not have advanced driving training, it is not recommended to install this system.
