Importance of the Air Conditioning System in Electric Vehicles

Electric vehicles are both environmentally friendly and highly economical.

Because of this, maintenance of these vehicles is also very important. Trouble-free operation of the components inside directly affects how long the vehicle lasts.

One of the most important parts in electric vehicles is undoubtedly the batteries that provide the power needed for the vehicle to move. Electric vehicles generally contain high-voltage lithium-ion or nickel-metal hydride batteries.

What conditions are required for the batteries in an electric vehicle to work properly?

Operating conditions for batteries are very important, as they directly affect vehicle life.

One of the most important things to do to protect battery health is to maintain battery temperatures. Batteries must stay within certain temperature ranges.

A battery in an electric vehicle must not exceed 40 degrees Celsius; if it does, battery health is seriously affected.

At the same time, battery temperature must not fall below -10 degrees. In that case battery health is also seriously affected.

Therefore battery temperatures should remain between the values we mentioned. In hot summer months or cold winter months, battery temperatures may exceed desired values, which can cause battery faults.

How is wear on batteries due to temperature changes prevented?

To prevent wear that can occur due to excessive heating or cooling of batteries, a thermal control system has been designed for batteries in electric or hybrid vehicles.

How the thermal control system works;

The thermal control system works as follows: a special cooling loop is placed inside the batteries in electric vehicles.

This cooling loop contains a special fluid made of water and glycol.

This fluid circulates continuously within the system. If the temperature value in the battery is low, the fluid in the system heats the battery.

If the temperature value in the battery is high, excess heat is removed from the battery by a specially equipped air conditioning unit.

For this reason, the air conditioning system in electric vehicles is at least as important as engine cooling systems in internal combustion engine vehicles.

A fault in the air conditioning can also cause different problems in the vehicle.
