What Is Mercedes DoIP?
DoIP (Diagnostics over Internet Protocol) is diagnostic communication over Ethernet. On newer Mercedes platforms it is discussed alongside, or in place of, classic multiplex data buses.
The assumption that “every OBD cable does DoIP” is not reliable. DoIP-capable interfaces such as mercedes-sd-connect-c5-c6 and a current Xentry are required.
On older chassis (e.g., many W204 jobs) classic connection paths may be sufficient; in a mixed fleet, C4 and C5/C6 are planned together (sd-connect-c4-or-c5-c6).
PC network settings (IP, firewall) are a frequent source of connection issues.

In DoIP sessions, the PC network card, virtual adapter, and antivirus are frequent causes of no connection. Rule out the network before suspecting the interface.
Choose between C4 and C5/C6 based on fleet age. Keeping both as complementary is common in a mixed fleet (sd-connect-c4-or-c5-c6).
A dropped DoIP connection during programming is risky; stable power and cable quality are essential.
