Renault Airbag Reset: Crash Data and Cautions

On the airbag / SRS system, a lit lamp, a unit locked after a collision, or communication faults are among the common complaints. A "reset" is not always a software matter — a damaged component or the wiring can be the cause.

For diagnosis, the Renault CLIP for Diagnostics and Programming plus the Renault CAN Clip Interface route is common. On newer generations some write operations may be restricted by the Renault Security Gateway (SGW).

Cautions

• Do not disconnect or connect airbag plugs with the vehicle powered up (follow the manufacturer procedure).
• After crash data, a software "clean-up" alone may not be enough.
• Do not trust misleading "chip reset" claims.

Does a lit lamp always mean the unit must be replaced?

No. It can come from a sensor, wiring, a connector or software. Diagnose first.
