Toyota coding is generally used in workshops to mean unit configuration, option/parameter settings, or matching after a part replacement. Without the hardware present, software alone doesn't unlock every function.
Coding differs from ECU programming (flashing) (toyota-ecu-programming). On the OEM path, toyota-techstream-guide with toyota-mini-vci-guide or toyota-mdi2-guide is used.
Cautions
- Back up the current configuration.
- A wrong parameter can produce warnings or loss of function.
- Don't dismiss Smart Key/immobilizer jobs as "just coding" (toyota-key-registration, toyota-smart-key-fault).
